People Peacefully Play Sometimes, 2016

Three micro labourers are hired to paint a mural. They can paint whatever they like. The only condition is that they work in unison. They must hold the brush together, dip it together, rest together.

These labourers are hired via Task Rabbit: an app that connects an informal workforce to part-time jobs, or gigs. Recently, an increasing dissatisfaction has appeared with gig platforms such as Task Rabbit, Uber and Deliveroo. The precarity underpinning this employment model is becoming manifest in lawsuits, class actions and strikes. This performance is part of an ongoing project that looks at ways that solidarity may be produced within the fragmented labour conditions of the gig economy.
